April 22, 2025
Grey Owl Paddles has generously donated an assortment of paddles to our Paddling Centre. This donation helps us replace old and worn existing equipment, but it also helps us build our new equipment inventory so that we can offer a wide range of paddling opportunities in all disciplines: canoe, kayak, and stand up paddleboard. Paddle Manitoba wishes to express its deepest gratitude and looks forward to putting it all to use on the water. Many thanks to Grey Owl Paddles!

PROJECT NEWS
Paddling Centre Project
Paddle Manitoba has formed a partnership with the City of Winnipeg at La Barriere Park to turn a former washroom building there into our Paddling Centre. Much of the work in transforming this building has been completed. We are still working to stock it with equipment from all paddling disciplines and make more improvements to the area around the building.

Big Canoe Project
Paddle Manitoba received a gracious donation of a big canoe and trailer to use for our programming. However, some work has been required to get this big canoe ready for service. Seats, gunwales, thwarts, and the outer fibreglass, are all in need of repair. Committed volunteers are making steady progress in these areas. Following this will be finding it a permanent home where it can be accessed and stored safely.

Provincial Trail Advisory Board Project
Paddle Manitoba sits on the Provincial Trail Advisory Board. As part of our advocacy work, we're currently seeking to help better sign, repair and improve portage trails in provincial parks. The current area of focus is the Manigotagan River, with a goal of modest improvements in 2026 (firepits, signage).
Newsletter Archive Project
Digitizing all past Paddle Manitoba newsletters is on-going project to capture the history of the organization and recreational paddling in Manitoba. A majority of them have been completed already as we work to find and fill any gaps.

Archival Newsletters
Before social media, our newsletter was an important means of communicating information about the organization, routes, instruction, and really all else paddling in the province.
The newsletter of Paddle Manitoba began as the MRCA Newsletter and later became The Ripple. Formerly a print newsletter, it was later published electronically in PDF format and distributed to members by email. It was generally published quarterly between 1988 and 2014.
Many thanks goes to all those who volunteered to organize, edit, contribute, and sponsor, our print and digital newsletters over the years. The history of the organization and recreational paddling in Manitoba is captured in their pages.

Archival Legacy Social Media
As a change was made to social media platforms to share news, those platforms changed too. Paddle Manitoba did have X - Twitter and Flickr accounts in the past. You may still be able to find and reach these accounts, but Paddle Manitoba does not maintain them any longer with new information as our website and Facebook and Instagram accounts have proven most popular with our members.
Today the Paddle Manitoba X - Twitter and Flickr accounts remain active only as archives to access legacy information.
